Howdy! How are you? Who are you? I am pro-life, pro-animal rights, pro-environment and am frightened to death about where this administration has taken us. On the other hand, not one Democrat tried to filibuster Bush's torture bill, his war appropriations bill (loaded with pork) or his wholesale assault on all consumer protections and his draconian cuts in social services to the most helpless and the poorest of the poor. I take my figurative hat off to those who go to the third world countries to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and bring medical supplies to save as many as possible. I've recently met some amazing women who risk their lives regularly, to cross the border here in California to establish animal sanctuaries in Baja and deeper into Mexico to rescue stray animals who live short, horrendous lives and meet cruel, painful terrible deaths at the hands of their human torturers. Churches and other charitable and humanitarian groups go down and do what they can for the abysmally poor people. The animals are left to starve and reproduce. They are pelted with rocks, kicked in the head and chest, and eventually, clubbed to death by what passes for "law enforcement" or they are trucked to a true house of horrors ( the pessara) where they are dragged to an electrocution machine. The volunteers rescue as many as they can. They spend their own money and get by on small donations. They need everything. The animal sanctuary in San Felipe was robbed and the thieves burned it to the ground, including sick dogs and newborn puppies and their helpless mothers. A very brave young women who had an animal sanctuary and hospital deeper in Mexico, had her place broken into by the "Sheriff" and his "posse." They clubbed all the animals to death, including one dog one chemotherapy who had just undergone surgery. She was threatened, herself. Now, I've read posts about the cruelty to animals in Communist China. Last I heard, Mexico is not communist, it is an oligarchy. But animals in Mexico are in as much peril.
